Falling to Death

Dr. Joel Richards

I love the quote from Batman where Thomas Wayne asks “why do we fall Bruce?”

There is an amazing lesson to be learned in that statement. Unfortunately a fall can be devastating when you are in your advanced years if we do not learn how to fall and how to pick ourselves back up.

Falls are the leading cause of death due to injury among the elderly and 87% of all fractures in the elderly are due to falls.

Falls account for 25% of all hospital admissions, and 40% of all nursing home admissions 40% of those admitted do not return to independent living; 25% die within the year. Statistically in this day and time your chance of contracting Ebola or even dying from cancer is far less than dying from a fall or fall related injuries.

So your thinking great now I can’t get out of bed or I am going to die! You do not have to fear falling; you have to take the action steps now so that you can develop your strength by introducing weight bearing exercise; your flexibility by performing the move by design exercises; your mobility and balance by performing the move by design exercises and getting your spine checked for veterbral subluxation. Following these simple steps will allow you to optimize your overall function and prevent falls from happening in the first place.
